From my portfolio: baby blankets
My Mom’s family has a tradition of creating baby blankets for each new human born into our family. My aunt and grandmother created three for each of my boys (!!) explaining that one is on the baby, one is in the hamper, and a clean one in the drawer. (below are my boys modeling them two years ago)

(Had we known at the time what the first year with our little GERDlings would entail, I would’ve requested six blankets each, since it was more like one slightly soiled blanket on each baby, four puke-covered blankets in the hamper/wash, and none in the drawer because as soon as they came out of the dryer they were needed on a baby.)
I have in turn created blankets for several friends' babies and below are two of the most recent.
Basically I just sewed two pieces of complementary fabric together. They are about three feet by three feet and perfect for swaddling (as demonstrated by Leola - who recently hatched! - in the last photo).
My friends get only one blanket from me, though, because as much as I love the choosing of the fabrics, the actual sewing requires lots of precision, repetition, and detail, all of which I am genetically incapable of sustaining for more than a few minutes. That, and I have two toddlers. And I only have access to a sewing machine when I visit my parents.
